One of our very own beach communities made the cut on PBS’s 10 Towns that Changed America, and we couldn’t be more excited. Seaside, Florida is a picture-perfect little town, where you can reach nearly all of what the community has to offer by foot or bicycle. Seaside developer, Robert Davis created this community with New Urbanism style in mind, showcasing narrow brick lined streets, white picket fences, bright pastel homes, and so much more! Seaside truly is a one-of-a-kind community along Scenic Hwy 30A, and we are thrilled that rest of America will also get to see some of the charm this coastal community has to offer.
The PBS series, hosted by Geoffrey Baer, features towns that have made an impact in the building trends that might influence future landscape and communities. The series will take you on an architectural journey – and along the way, you’ll find out how these neighborhoods became the icons that they are today. This New Urbanism architectural style has become so popular among developers along Scenic Hwy 30A, that I would expect to see more, and more coastal community’s with this distinct style popping up around the area. In the latest episode ten communities designed (or redesigned) by visionary planners are spotlighted. The communities in this episode are: Levittown, N.Y.; The Pearl District in Portland, Ore.; Philadelphia; Riverside, Ill.; Salt Lake City; Seaside, Fla.; and last but not least St. Augustine, Fla. I have to admit though…. we are a bit partial to Seaside, but we are excited to see some of the design aspects that make these other communities influential icons as well.
